I promised my father if I lived long enough that I would trace the family back to Germany.
He heard they came from Holand (Germany). Most likely, Jacob (and Martin) Treish
came to Philadelphia from Germany by way of Rotterdam, Holland. We are almost there.
The most fascinating tidbit in the Thrash lineage is the discovery of six relatives named
Valentine Thrash. This points to a German patriarch named Valentine Dreish in the early
18th century. Martin's Treish's neighbor, Philip Lautensleger, was from Erbach, duchy of
Wurttemberg, according to his 1749 arrival ship list. The Thrashes left an Appalachian
trail, as well.

      1. Valentine THRASH, son of Martin (Mormon research) MD, VA, NC
      2. Valentine THRASH, son of Jacob (Thrash Families by Ann Thrash) GA
                                          grandson of Martin (Mormon research)
      3. Valentine THRASH, 1860 Floyd Co. VA census (prosperous farmer)
possibly grandson of Valentine No. 1
      4. W.M. Valentine THRASH  grandson of Valentine No. 2 (family record) AL
      5. Valentine Thrash CONNER grandson of Valentine No. 3 (Jim Gray, genforum)
      6. Valentine Thrash STRICKLER great grandson of Valentine No. 3 (Thurman)

Interesting, my maternal grandmother was Harriet Virginia Conner, her father, John
Conner of GA, below is Harriette Elizabeth Conner of Virginia, father, Jonathan.

Andrew P. Thrash

THE 1860 FLOYD COUNTY, VIRGINIA CENSUS

Transcript by Jeffrey C. Weaver 1992

Order paper copies fromMrs. John C. Mullins, Rt. 2 Box 307, Clintwood, Virginia 24228
Introduction

The 1860 Federal Census for Floyd County, Virginia, the last taken before the great conflagration - the War for Southern Independence. As such, this census may be the only record to link children to fathers who died in that conflict. This census is further important, in that it gives more detail on the social stratification of Southern Society, even Southern Society on the rim of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.

The population of Floyd County in 1860 amounted to 8236, 7854 of whom were free, while the 1990 population of the 381 square mile county was only 12005. This indicates that much of the natural increase of the county has migrated elsewhere to work. Neighboring Roanoke County became industrialized in the early 20th century and no doubt siphoned off much of the population of this still rural, very beautiful county.

Information presented in this transcript wi the household number, names of the occupants, their age, occupation of the heads of the household. The values of the family's real property and personal property and place of birth. [In this transcript this has been recorded only if NOT VIRGINIA. Remarks on an individual have also been included.

Not all names are clear to a transcriber who may not be familiar with individual families, which is impossible. If doubt arises about a transcription exists, please accept my apology and consult the original microfilm and make your own de- termination as to what is correct. Please note that the film quality deteriorates toward the end of the film, and the accuracy decreases as this transcription continues.

 Good Luck!
